Fall weekend

Happy Monday everyone!
Now that it's time to go back to work, the rain in DC has finally stopped. What a dreary, cold weekend! I spent my time meeting up with friends, going to the gym, and attending a housewarming party, but for the most part I tried to stay warm and cozy and read this book (so good!).
I wanted to share some pics from my great weekend home last week! I thoroughly enjoyed New England fall and being with my family. The wedding was a blast, although very tiring! Those pictures to come soon.

Best sister ever! She planned this great party for me:

Please note the castle cake and princess pinata

And a bonfire!
It was so good to see everyone and I really appreciated the great early birthday party they threw me. Can't wait to be back for Thanksgiving!

I'm still here!

I'm still alive! Being away for 5 days and adjusting right back into working life does take a toll on a girl. I promise great wedding and New England fall pictures to come!

There is currently a Nor'easter sitting right over the Mid Atlantic/Northeast that promises rain straight through Sunday. This gives you an idea of what this morning's walk to work looked like:

Cold and wet! Definitely a good time to pull out galoshes and scarves. I swear my blood has thinned since I've moved down south! You would never guess that I survived four New Hampshire winters. Hopefully the rain won't dampen our spirits too much, and this is what we will look like tonight:

Happy Friday

Going to the chapel...

Well, technically? I'm heading home this weekend to be a bridesmaid in my good friend Jocelynn's wedding. She and Ryan are such a cute couple and I know they're going to be very happy together!

So three days off work plus being in New England in the fall plus participating in all sorts of girly activites equals one very happy Rachel. I can't wait to be there and promise to take lots of pictures!

It's going to be a fabulous (and super long!) weekend.

Sunday at Eastern Market

My Sunday afternoon was spent exploring Eastern Market. I needed to get my fix in before the weather gets cold! Such a nice way to spend the day.

We started out with some much needed coffee and a crepe.

The newly reopened building

Whale? Really?

After the market I walked down the street to visit with friends. It was such a nice fall day!

TGIF!

Happy Friday! I, for one, am very much in need of the weekend. I plan on doing lots of relaxing, attending a birthday party, hopefully hiking in Rock Creek Park and perhaps doing some shopping at Eastern Market. What are you up to?

rabbit rabbit!

Happy first day of October! October is one of my favorite months, but I guess I'm biased because it's my birthday month! It's going to be a good one.

The Body Image Revolution

I found this great article today that I found pretty inspiring. Kudos to these models for having such confidence with their bodies and reminding us that all women are beautiful! Aren't they gorgeous?

It's so refreshing to see attractive, self-assured women who are bigger than a size 4!

Is that you fall?

It finally feels like fall has come to Washington, DC. It's crisp and cool and leaves crunch under your feet when you walk along the sidewalk. It's definitely gotten me in the mood for an important upcoming event - Halloween! I'm thinking I'll decorate something like this for the big day:

One of my closest friends from this amazing place is coming to visit with her boyfriend whom I will have the pleasure of meeting for the very first time so I am super pumped. For the first time since, well, I guess since I trick or treated last? I am getting into dressing up. My darling sister is assisting me with her sewing skills to make one pretty kick ass costume (or so I hope!) The details are still in the works so I don't want to give away the surprise yet, but here's a hint for those you in the know:

Any guesses?

I'm here!

After months of encouraging by my fabulous sister Ruthie I have FINALLY started my blog! This will probably be in flux for a bit while I find my niche in what I want to write about, but it will
probably include topics such as:
  • Living in our nation's capital woot woot!!
  • Being a young professional
  • Being single!
  • All the fun things I do
  • All the great things that make me happy
This last topic was the inspiration for my blog title, "Slender Threads." This comes from one of my favorite songs by Dashboard Confessional -
"Some things tie your life together, slender threads and things to treasure
Days like that should last and last and last"

It really makes me realize that there are so many moments in our lives that really make it worth living; hopefully this blog will help me keep a look out for them and help me appreciate my everyday life a little bit more!

With that, I leave you with some pictures that have helped get me into the season. I'm missing New England fall this year, but these pictures make me feel like I'm back :)
